This was a stumble upon a restaurant with a view kind of day. We took ourselves from Lisbon to Porto, undoubtedly hungover from a long night of fado-ing ourselves into a stupor. We needed something with depth to bring us out of the ennui. Enter the francesinha.
A francesinha is thick bread, ham, sausage, steak or roast beef, covered in melted cheese and a special tomato sauce, plus a fried egg on top. It’s the exact mess of a meal you need to settle your stomach and feel ready to nap off the previous night’s effects. It’s a classic and, if you’re in Porto, it’s required.
