We go to Sushi Haru maybe every other week. We always sit at the sushi bar to talk to “Johnny” (probably not his real name) our favorite sushi chef. We like to think we’re his favorite customers… indicated by the tastes he likes to send our way, but I’m sure he does that with lots of folks. He always asks us where we’ve traveled to lately and we shoot the breeze about New York and Japan. He’s awesome. Plus he makes delicious sushi!
He turned us on to mackerel sashimi, which is probably our favorite sushi order, by telling us that it’s what true sushi connoisseurs eat (we’re very susceptible to authenticity). We’ve been known to order 14 pieces of mackerel in one go…
I usually get a roll, like the Trinity Roll (a spicy tuna roll with super white tuna, salmon, avocado, topped with white tuna, hamachi & eel sauce) and some tuna nigiri. My husband opts for things like clam, scallops, and salmon roe.
Then Johnny always ends our meal with a tempura’d slice of apple drizzled with honey and sesame seeds. It’s awesome.
